Our Pledge to Community Based Organisations

Our Pledge to Community Based Organisations

Last weekend we held a humble clothes swap for local people in our community. We decided to use the time to make some money for a local charity and chose the Queen of Hearts Foundation. We have raised just over $800 in a couple of hours, so thank you to everyone who came and supported us.  Over the years we have encountered so many local community-based organisations who work with a wonderful vision to deliver the most amazing services for those in need. Working with so many of them, we noticed some common threads. The amazing vision that people have to support and deliver precious services to the lives of many overtakes the requirement to market, goal set, and keep abreast of technology and changing markets. Staff are often stretched, possibly underpaid and everything is being thrown down to maintain services.
Part of why I do this work is that I have strong bonds with the community. My local community supported me when I was a single mother and not working. I can still remember the one and only time I was so broke I was offered some food and firewood by a local charity. It was one of t he most humbling moments of my life and I swore that I would never be in that situation again and It supports my children with special needs. A member of our local community, a paramedic, saved my husbands life at the City 2 Surf in 2006, so we love to give back.  Today we are announcing a new pledge to provide $10,000 worth of events and services to local community-based organisations. Not for profits and non-government organisations, are businesses, just like everyone else. They need support, mentoring and education for changing technology. We can do our bit by bringing them into our community and providing these services free of charge. That’s free networking, mentoring and workshops. In fact any program that we offer to support small business is open to our non-profits. I encourage everyone in our community to give back. Itdoesn’tt have to always be cash. Sometimes money, expertise and giving your time could be just the thing that is required.
